Police In Lagos Bravely Arrests Bank Robber & Car Snatching Kingpins

The good news to Lagosians is that personnel of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a suspected bank robber and a car-snatching kingpin and also recovered some firearms from them.

Francis Abubakar, the suspected car-snatching kingpin was arrested by the anti-crime patrol team of the Satellite Police Station, while his gang members tried to snatch a Peugeot 307 car at the Mosalasi, Mile 2 area in Lagos.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana, released a statement yesterday, where he stated that a locally-made shotgun was recovered from Abubakar, who has been handed over to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad for further investigation.

In other news, Similarly, a patrol team from the Ejigbo Police Station arrested a bank robbery kingpin after his gang robbed a lady at Access Bank along the Egbe Road in the Ejigbo area of the state. Elkana revealed that the patrol team got a distressed call that the gang members were on a motorcycle and were operating outside the bank premises, and that the gang members engaged the police in a gun battle, until they were eventually overpowered and their ring leader arrested and a Brownie pistol with live ammunition was recovered from him. He said that they also recovered the sum of N250,000 which was returned to the victim.

“On August 9, 2019, around 11.10pm, the anti-crime patrol team from the Satellite Police Station foiled an attempt by a car-snatching syndicate to snatch a Peugeot 307 saloon car in the Mosalasi area along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, Mile 2.

One Francis Abubakar, who is the ringleader of the gang, was arrested. One locally-made shotgun was recovered from the suspect. The Peugeot 307 was recovered and handed over to the owner. SARS has taken over the case with a view to apprehending other members of the gang. Investigation is ongoing and the suspect will soon be charged.

On August 9 around 9.45pm, the Ejigbo Police Station received a distress call that some armed robbers on a motorcycle were operating outside the Access Bank along the Egbe Road by the NNPC junction, Ejigbo. Patrol teams deployed from the Ejigbo Police Station to reinforce the mobile policemen on guard duty at the bank engaged the armed robbers in a gun battle.

The armed robbers were overpowered and chased up to Egbe, where their ringleader was arrested with bullet wounds, while others escaped. One Brownie pistol with live ammunition was recovered from the suspect. The sum of N250,000 earlier snatched from a female victim was recovered and handed over to her. SARS have taken over the investigation and efforts are in place to apprehend other fleeing members of the gang.”
